Twitter and Tesla CEO Elon Musk met with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy at the US Capitol in Washington on Thursday night, two sources familiar with the meeting said.
McCarthy left the meeting with Musk in his office and declined to comment other than to say, “He came to my birthday.” McCarthy turned 58 on Thursday.
CNN asked Musk for comment on what the two men said during the meeting.
Musk has built a reputation as a polarizing figure in the tech industry and for his political views. He has been a frequent public speaker on US policy and the political climate in recent months.
The meeting comes amid a shift in political power in Washington after Republicans took control of the House in January and elected McCarthy as Speaker.
