I usually advise my clients to think about 3 holistic things when choosing a destination: (1) cost + quality of life, (2) diversity/openness, and (3) must-haves .
First and foremost, you should always check in your wallet before moving abroad. If you want to earn US dollars, there are many countries that can stretch the dollar even further than the United States. Popular affordable destinations include Colombia, Bali, Thailand and Mexico.
Secondly, diversity and openness are very important to our fellow black digital nomads. I encourage you to find black bloggers and bloggers to share your inside scoop on black life. Of course, not everyone will have the same experience, but if you see racist tendencies, it might be worth avoiding the place, or at least being more careful with your travels.
And finally, I advise my clients to look at their “must haves”. Ask them if they like hot or cold weather, if they like the beach or the city, what languages they speak or want to learn, and what cultures they identify with. This is a rare opportunity to think about what it takes to be successful and build your life around it!
