Lawmakers are aiming to legalize sports betting in their states, following the lead of more than half of the country, according to NBC 5 affiliate.
An investigation was reportedly initiated in August 2022 by the Vermont Legislature’s Sports Betting Research Committee, which recommended legalization in the state.
Legislators were reported to have said a bill could be drafted by early next week and that sports betting would fall under the jurisdiction of the Liquor and Lottery Department.
Reports indicate that the bidding process will likely require two to six sportsbooks to find the best fit for the state.
“Hopefully we’ll have a head start in the NFL playoffs by the end of the year,” said NBC 5 Liquor and Lottery Commissioner Wendy Knight.
