Riverside, CA (KABC) — Riverside’s Canyon Crest Town Center is known for its small businesses offering a variety of dining and shopping options.
However, since the beginning of the year, it has become a target for thieves.
Surveillance video from the inside of one of those stores shows thieves combing the store. This was the second time the store had been raided this week.
Several other companies have also been victims of intrusions. Many of them are restaurants.
Some still have boards on the doors and windows that mark where the thieves broke in.
A burglar broke in through a side window at Marisa’s Italian deli.
“It’s clear they broke in immediately, went straight to the register and left, because nothing else was stolen and nothing else was robbed,” Jamie Christmas said. “So these scammers are just coming to take your money. There is fear within the community, but all we can do as a business is try to protect ourselves.”
Since then, the deli has added a new security system and kept the cash register empty and open.
The center has hired more security guards.
