The NBA’s latest tweak to the All-Star format (a draft held right before the game itself, rather than days or weeks ahead) may have been the brainchild of one of its greatest players.
After the league announced the change in its release, Net Forward Kevin Durant Tweeted, “Heard it first here.”
He has attached a one-minute clip from the January 27, 2022 episode. ETC with Kevin DurantIn his podcast with Eddie Gonzalez, he outlined his vision for the pre-game All-Star Draft.
“I love that you pick on TV. I know the ideas in everyone’s heads are like schoolyards, but this is as good as it gets. I love that you guys do it.” , it’s hilarious,” Gonzalez said in the episode.
“But if you pick it right before the game, it’s going to catch fire,” Durant mused.
“It would be crazy,” Gonzalez said. The two visualized what such a draft would look like and were enthusiastic about their respective ideas.
“We’re giving away the NBA idea for free,” Durant said prophetically.
