Two-time Olympic gold medalist and American ski star Mikaela Shiffrin surpassed Lindsay Vonn’s record by winning her 83rd World Cup title on Tuesday.
The American won the Giant Slalom at Kronplatz, Italy. She topped her place after her first run, posting a time of 58.72 before her time on her second run closed out her record-breaking day with her 1:01.89.
She finished second, 0.45 seconds ahead of 2021 World Giant Slalom Champion Lara Gat Behrami. Home favorite Federica Brignone finished her third.
Shiffrin’s 83rd World Cup victory surpassed her compatriot Vonn to become the all-time women’s skier. She is currently just three behind the overall men’s and women’s ski record holders, held by Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark with 86 wins.
This is their ninth win of the 2022/23 season, more than the total wins of the previous two seasons.
