Sports are big in Los Angeles. When you think of the LA industry, teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Rams may come to mind first, but they’re not the only ones. Newest entrant? esports. As of last year, esports viewership has reached 532 million, and this figure is expected to surpass 640 million by 2025.
The newness of esports contrasts with some of the county’s oldest venues, including the Grand Olympic Auditorium, which was built nearly 100 years ago as LA’s answer to New York’s famous Madison Square Garden. Once home to boxing, wrestling and roller derby, as well as film and TV shoots, the downtown stadium has been the church of South Korea since 2005.
