Lake Placid, NY (WCAX) – Thursday marks the start of the FISU World University Games at Lake Placid.
More than 14,000 athletes from 46 countries will flock to the Olympic Center in New York.
The game consists of 10 days of winter sports extravaganza, including a closing portion of Main Street for free music and activities for all ages.
Governor Kathy Hochul will speak at the opening ceremony at 7:00 p.m.
This competition is called the university equivalent of the Olympic Games.
A major upgrade has been made in preparation for the event.
