One-lane eastbound section of Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge will be closed from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Jan. 16-18 as part of preparatory work for widening the Interstate will be done, officials said Wednesday morning.
The rightmost lane of eastbound traffic between Dalrymple Drive and Perkins Road will be closed for utility relocation.
The closure is to allow crews to install temporary concrete barriers before utility work, according to the state Department of Transportation Development.
Scheduled for completion by early 2027, the project will include adding new lanes in each direction of I-10 from La. 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish to near the I-10/12 junction .
“After multiple failed attempts by previous administrations to improve this corridor, I am proud to say that this administration is moving forward,” DOTD Secretary Sean Wilson said in a statement.
Lane closures are separate from plans to close one lane in each direction on I-10.
It is set for early 2024.
The first construction work later this year will focus on expanding the interstate highway between I-110 and Acadian Thruway.
