Cristiano Ronaldo’s new club, Al Nasr, has said his deal with the club “does not come with a commitment to bid for the World Cup”.
Ronaldo’s move to the Saudi side has prompted suggestions that his contract contains a clause to help facilitate the Gulf nation’s potential bid for the 2030 World Cup.
But Al Nasr has publicly clarified the circumstances surrounding Ronaldo’s deal.
“Al Nasr FC would like to clarify that, contrary to news reports, Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nasr does not come with a commitment to bid for the World Cup.
“His main focus is Al Nasr and working with his teammates to help the club succeed.”
The battle for the right to host the 2030 Games has already taken shape, with Saudi Arabia expected to launch joint bids with Greece and Egypt. Spain, Portugal and Ukraine have officially launched a joint pan-European tender.
