Speech group criticizes Florida schools for eliminating play
Free speech groups have accused Florida administrators of suddenly canceling a performance by high school students of Paula Vogel’s play “Indecent,” which explores flashpoints in the history of Jewish and queer theater. The National Coalition Against Censorship, PEN America, and the Playwright’s Legal Defense Fund have urged school officials to reverse the decision and work with students to get him to perform the play as scheduled in March. Administration at the Douglas Anderson School of Performing Arts in Duval County, Florida, halted production this month, weeks after casting decisions were made.
