Lauren McGa and Justin Bigatell – based in Park City – are two local athletes competing at the World Junior Championships in St. Anton, Austria, January 19-25.
McGa grew up in Park City, trained with the Park City Ski Team, and graduated from the Park City Winter Sports School. He finished 3rd at the Junior World Championships last year and 2nd in Super G at the 2019 Junior Championships. Her first World Cup start came in 2021 at Lake Louise, Canada. She was named to her 2020 US Ski Team.
Bigatell grew up in Pennsylvania and learned to ski before moving to Park City in fifth grade. He also attended Burke Mountain Academy during high school and his best result is his 1st place in his FIS giant slalom held at his Valley in Waterville. He was also the U16 GS national champion. He was named to the US Ski Team in his 2022 season.
The duo will join a 15-man team competing in Downhill, Super G Team Combined, GS Slalom and Mixed Team Parallel races. A schedule can be found in the web version of this report on kpcw.org.
