Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany — A lack of snow in an unseasonably warm European winter forced organizers to cancel two men’s World Cup ski races in Germany on Tuesday, two weeks ahead of schedule.
The International Ski Federation said it was “working on alternative venues” for the downhill and giant slalom scheduled for January 28-29 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The FIS made the decision because of “poor weather forecasts and actual snow conditions” on Bavaria’s famous Kandahar slopes.
Last week, the hill successfully staged a men’s slalom race on a narrow strip of white artificial snow surrounded by green fields and forests.
