Monroe Woodbury students will no longer be traveling to Newburgh for sports games this season.
The district issued a statement on Tuesday, saying the decision was made after the shooting at the Newburgh Free Academy when the Goldbacks’ football game against Warwick began.
Monroe-Woodbury said it was working with Newburgh to find other locations for the game, and said it would re-evaluate in the winter.
School district superintendent Elsie Rodriguez said educators have identified safety as a major focus for the school year and their “thoughts and prayers” are with Newburgh.
