LightningCHICAGO. August 16, 2009. The weather had the upper hand today and won out over both the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The stormy autumn rain clouds rolled up over Wrigley field from the South West and the result was that the game was postponed. This wasn’t exactly what the Cubs wanted as they already have a very full schedule of games ahead of them what with catch up games filling up their scheduled rest days.

The other game on today of interest to the Cubs was the San Diego V St. Louis game and it also went into a rain delay at the top with the 8th with the Padres one run to the good over the Cardinals at 5-4. Eventually it resumed and the Cardinals pulled the game out of the fire to get a run and a walk off home run in the 9th to give them a 5 game lead over the Cubs in the NL Central Division. The Cubs have 4 make up games on hand.
